May 2016, Vol. 2 No. 5
Building your network & giving what you had

As a Mount Royal University alumna, I am proud to be part of a community of fellow alumni that were given opportunities to have a rich undergraduate experience. Through Mount Royal, I was able to do a four month internship at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. That experience positively impacted my whole career.

As coordinator, annual giving, I get to inspire people to give to MRU so current and future students are provided with opportunities to excel, just like I was. One campaign we're currently working on is the
Power of One Hundred - Bissett School of Business Alumni Giving Challenge. What's so great about this campaign is alumni donors get to vote for what area
they want to see the funds raised go towards. They are then invited to an exclusive event where they can connect with the rest of the ONE hundred and expand their network.

In this issue of True Blue, we link you to our newest blog post on networking and you'll learn about our new partnership with Calgary Economic Development's Connector Program. We'll also announce this year's Alumni Achievement Awards nominees, plus so much more. This is a packed issue and your last one until July. Happy reading!

MRU Alumni Blog Post: The truth about "NETWORKING"

The word ‘networking’ gets loosely thrown around at recruitment events, employment classes and professional business functions – which could lead to the view that everyone has become an expert in networking. But the actual truth is that there is an art to effective networking. It’s not just something that you should do, but rather a key skill set that all professionals should have in their repertoire. The Power of ONE hundred

Are you a Bissett School of Business alumnus/a? If so, we're currently running a campaign just for you! The Power of ONE Hundred – Bissett School of Business Alumni Giving Challenge is no ordinary giving campaign. Alumni who donate $100 or more will get to vote between three initiatives that impact the experience of current and future business students. This year, the three competing initiatives are:
  • Scholarships
  • Student competitions
  • Field school opportunities
You are in the driver’s seat…the initiative with the most votes at the end of the campaign will receive 100 per cent of the campaign’s gifts. Remember, you can donate ANY amount to the campaign, only alumni who give gifts of $100 or more will have the opportunity to vote and be invited to an exclusive event where the winning initiative will be announced.

Act fast! The campaign closes on May 15. We hope to see 100 Bissett School of Business alumni at the celebration.

#GradUPerks
We helped make exam time a little easier for soon to be alumni writing their final finals at Mount Royal University. On April 19 and 25, student graduating in 2016 could Tweet us with the hashtag #GradUPerks and we delivered what they needed to get through their last exams at MRU. We delivered smoothies, coffees, Pad Thai and more to grateful grads. Read more about this new initiative here. We apologize for not having #GradUPerks when you were graduating!
