Feb. 25 — Who's Frank? Frankly Speaking … about sexual violence from2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in theLincoln Park Room. Find out how our panel of experts is raising awareness about sexual violence in a post-secondary environment with a frank, educational discussion on topics ranging from who is being sexually assaulted to the male perspective and bystander intervention.
Feb. 25 — Carving out power with Jessie Mac at 4:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Park Room. Hear Maureen Ulrich, this year’s Writer in Residence and author of the Jessie Mac trilogy. She will speak to her experience writing for a young audience, and about her feisty characters who take on challenges like bullying in school and in sports. March 9 — Gwynne Dyer on campus. The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is happy to present the author, historian and journalist for a free lecture entitled “Don’t Panic (But You Can Worry Just a Little).” Taking place at 12 p.m. in Wyckham House Student Centre (open to the public).

Smithsonian awards MRU scholarship MRU student, Kitty Deng (Bachelor of Communications - Information Design) has been awarded an Alberta-Smithsonian scholarship 2016. Deng is one of ten recipients from Alberta, out of 24 applicants. This prestigious award is a first for MRU. Deng will work as an intern at one of the Smithsonian institutes in Washington.
University doc recognized by Waterwalker Film Fest Canoes for Peru, a documentary video showcasing the journey of MRU Professor Joe Pavelka and his students sending a container of canoes from Canada to a remote region in Peru to support sustainable tourism, has captured first place at Paddle Canada's Waterwalker Film Festival. Paddle Canada's Waterwalker Film Festival is a tribute to the late Bill Mason, the great conservationist, canoeist and filmmaker. The film will be presented at ten Canadian cities in 2016.
