Indigenous Awareness Week ― Oct. 31 to Nov. 5

Watch for the Treaty 7 flagraising on Nov. 1 to its new and permanent position on campus, and on Nov. 3 a tipi will be raised near Charlton Pond. Celebrate and learn about Indigenous cultures with a number of events occuring all week.

Avoid Crowchild Trail at Flanders Avenue Oct. 28 to 29

Drivers are encouraged to avoid Crowchild Trail at Flanders Avenue SW from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 as new overhead signage is installed. During this window traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with a full closure taking place for approximately 10 minutes. The bridge will be fully operational Nov. 1. Main campus building repairs ― Oct. 29 to Oct. 30

From 6 p.m. Saturday evening to 6 a.m. Sunday morning there will be limited ventilation (air flow from the fans) and hot water available in the main campus building except for the new B and U wings and Recreation. Details on the impacted locations and who to contact before and during the repairs can be found on MyMRU announcements.

Scholarship opportunity for ecotourism students

Mount Royal University was recently the recipient of an Alberta Environment and Parks grant of $15,000 for Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership scholarships. First- and second-year students will be eligible for a $1,500 annual scholarship starting in the fall of 2017. See more.

Director of Wellness Services appointed to provincial Advisory Panel on Post-secondary Mental Health

Kandi McElary, director of Wellness Services, was recently appointed to the provincial Advisory Panel on Post-secondary Mental Health. The panel exists to help develop a province-wide system of addiction and mental health supports for Alberta post-secondary students. See more.

Dean Jeff Keshen co-editor of First World War collection of essays

To be released on Nov. 3, The Frontier of Patriotism: Alberta and the First World War was co-edited by Jeff Keshen, dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Adriana A. Davies. The collection of 40 essays provides an in-depth look at all aspects of Alberta's involvement in the war, reflecting Albertans' experiences both on the battlefield and on the home front. See more.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign up

As each semester begins (Aug./Sept.) (Dec./Jan.), areas with ongoing employee activites can send an email to employees describing the semester's activities. Employees can then opt in to a distribution list, such as Google Groups, to get updates. Emails can be sent here.
