March 2015, Vol. 1, No. 1
Welcome

Drum roll please... we’d like to welcome you to True Blue your new monthly alumni newsletter. True Blue is your connection to Mount Royal University featuring content relevant to alumni. Thank you and kudos to Barbara Camponi, Public Relations Diploma ’89, who provided the inspiration for our new name during the #MRUAlumniConnects contact information collection campaign.

In this month’s issue of True Blue we’ll announce the iPad mini winner from the #MRUAlumniConnects campaign and you’ll find there’s a lot going on at Mount Royal University in March. There’s a career and recruitment fair open to alumni and a learning event you can take part in via webinar. We’ll also be featuring a new impressive alumnus/a each month in our “Awe-inspiring Alumni” section. This month you will be inspired by alumna Zoey Duncan and her journey since graduation. We’ll also keep you up to date with other happenings and news involving your campus community.

It’s been a while since we sent out a newsletter and we appreciate your patience with the one off emails while we were developing True Blue. We are continuously working to improve services, programs and communication with our alumni. If you have any feedback feel free to email the team at
alumni@mtroyal.ca. We hope you enjoy.

What's new in Alumni Relations
#MRUAlumniConnects
In case you missed our last few emails, from Jan. 2 to Feb 28, alumni were given the opportunity to update their contact information for a chance to win an iPad mini. We had over 800 alumni fill out the collection form and 175 newsletter name suggestions provided. We appreciate those of you who shared the hashtag on Twitter, retweeted our tweets and liked the Mount Royal University Alumni LinkedIn Group post. We are thrilled about your enthusiasm to connect with your alma mater. Now you’re probably thinking…but who won the iPad mini?? Another drum roll please… and the winner is Abdullah Charkeih, Aviation Diploma '12. Congratulations! Thank you to our partner TD Insurance Meloche Monnex for the iPad mini.
LinkedIn alumni feature
Did you know LinkedIn has an alumni feature? If you log in to LinkedIn, then go to linkedin.com/alumni you’ll see a stream of other Mount Royal alumni. You can sort people by the years they attended Mount Royal or by city, career, field or even company. It’s a great way to build your network and connect with other alumni.
We're on Twitter
We have a new Twitter account @MRUAlumni—follow us and send us a tweet if you have something to share. We love to hear about alumni who are back on campus to learn or share their knowledge with current students.

Make sure to also join the Mount Royal University Alumni LinkedIn Group.
Alumni groups
We want to help alumni improve existing and establish new alumni groups. There are three different types of alumni groups you can be involved with: chapters, branches or shared interest groups (SIGs)

Chapters connect alumni who attended the same program.

Branches are geographically based, uniting alumni who live in the same city or region. We currently have one branch in Toronto.

SIGs are based on a shared interest from a unifying purpose, background or activity. For example, social innovation, health and wellness, an athletic team or LGBTTIQQ2A.

Want to establish or join an alumni group? Email James Parsons, coordinator chapters & branches:
jjparsons@mtroyal.ca.
